Landscaping is an important tool for planners in making urban spaces more sustainable and resilient but not all landscaping practices are the same. When done strategically, it can reduce the urban heat island effect, supporting existing water infrastructure, support ecological diversity, and increase the quality of our air and urban spaces. This event will discuss the long term cost and benefits of strategic landscaping in cities, how zoning and regulations can either encourage or inhibit environmentally friendly landscaping practices, and what types of projects can benefit greatly from, but may not already include, landscaping plans.
